Frederick Meyer IV (born January 4, 1981 in Sanbornville , New Hampshire ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach , who has worked for the Philadelphia Flyers , New York Islanders , Phoenix Coyotes and Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League was active.
Career
Freddy Meyer began his career as a hockey player in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he was active from 1997 to 2000. He then played for the Boston University team for three and a half years . In March 2003, Meyer, who had never been drafted , was signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia Flyers . In the 2003/04 season Meyer made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Flyers, but except for this game only played for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Philadelphia Phantoms . The following season, the defender was only on the ice for the Phantoms due to the lockout and eventually won the Calder Cup with the team .
In December 2006, the Philadelphia Flyers gave the American to the New York Islanders , for whom he scored three assists in 35 games by the end of the season. At the beginning of the following season, the rights to the player were initially acquired on October 8, 2007 by the Phoenix Coyotes , before the Islanders took them back after just one month on November 10. Then he was active again for the Islanders, which Meyer only ran five times for the Coyotes in the NHL. In August 2010, Meyer signed a one-season contract with the Atlanta Thrashers . After he came there in a season on only 15 NHL appearances, Meyer decided to leave the NHL and signed a one-year contract with MODO Hockey from the Elitserien .
Meyer ended his active career in the summer of 2012 and was then introduced in August 2012 as assistant coach to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, where he serves as the right-hand man of head coach Mark Morris .
International
Meyer took part in the 2006 World Cup for the USA . As a junior player, he represented his home country at the U18 World Junior Championship in 1999 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2001 .
