Frederick Cuthbert Poole

Sir Frederick Cuthbert Poole , KBE , CB , CMG , DSO , DL ( August 3, 1869 - December 20, 1936 ) was a British officer who was in command of the British Expeditionary Forces in Northern Russia from 1918 to 1919 and was most recently promoted to major general .

Life

Poole, the only child of Reverend Robert Henry Poole and his wife Elizabeth Lawrence Pawlett, completed an officer training at the Royal Military Academy Woolwich and was accepted into the Royal Artillery after graduation in 1889 . In 1892 he was appointed lieutenant promoted and took from 1897 to 1898 on the northwest frontier of British India at Tirah campaign part. After his promotion to captain in June 1899, he took part in the Second Boer War between 1899 and 1902 and was mentioned three times in the war report due to his military service there ( Mentioned in dispatches ) and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) in 1902 . He served in the Somaliland Field Force between 1903 and 1904 and subsequently in northern Nigeria . He was promoted to major in June 1909 and initially retired from active military service in 1914.

After the beginning of World War I , Poole was ordered back into active military service in 1914 and took part in numerous missions. In June 1915 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1917 received the brevet rank as colonel and the temporary rank of major general. In 1917 he was also Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) and in 1918 also Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB). He was mentioned seven more times in the war report for his military service in the First World War.

After the end of the First World War Poole was from 1918 to 1919 he was the commander of the British Expeditionary Forces in northern Russia , which held Arkhangelsk and the surrounding area for several months. In June 1919 he was promoted to colonel and on June 3, 1919 knight commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE), whereupon he continued to use the suffix "Sir". He became major general in 1920 and retired shortly thereafter. Poole, who in Par in Cornwall lived was also a magistrate JP (Justice of the Peace) and Deputy Lieutenant (DL). In addition, he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Legion of Honor .

His marriage on November 28, 1906 to Alice Maud Appelbe Hanson, daughter of the later member of the House of Commons Charles Hanson, 1st Baronet , remained childless.
