Fredrik Balkåsen (born May 13, 1989 in Falun ) is a former Swedish ski jumper who started for the Holmens IF .

Career

Fredrik Balkåsen is the son of the formerly successful ski jumper Per Balkåsen . Through him he got into ski jumping at the age of four. Balkåsen was used for the first time internationally at the Junior World Championships in Rovaniemi in March 2005 and finished 14th in the team and 41st in the individual. At the beginning of the 2005/06 season he was used for the first time in the FIS Cup . In Vikersund Balkåsen finished 16 and 15. It was not until February that he jumped internationally again at the Junior World Championships in Kranj.

After a 38th place in the individual, he narrowly missed the second round in ninth place in the team. In March Balkåsen made his debut in the Continental Cup with 47th and 48th places , where he finished 39th and 32nd in summer 2006 in Lillehammer . At the FIS Cup in Örnsköldsvik , he achieved his best results so far with places five and seven. Also this winter Balkåsen did not jump regularly, but only competed in the Continental Cups in Trondheim, where he finished 32nd and 46th, and at the Junior World Championships in Tarvisio, where he finished 35th. In the summer of 2007 he finished 35th and 53rd at the COC in Lillehammer and twice 11th at the FIS Cups in Falun .

In the next season he regularly jumped in the Continental Cup and made it into the second round four times: in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with places 30 and 29, as 28th in Engelberg and in Iron Mountain as 26. With these eleven points, Balkåsen was 123 in the end . in the overall ranking. He did not take part in the Junior World Championship.

In the 2008/09 season he only took part in a few Continental Cups, where he only made it into the second round in Zakopane as 23rd and 30th. That was nine points in the end and 141st place overall. At his last Junior World Championship in Štrbské Pleso , he finished 24th in the individual after a strong performance. In the team it was only enough for twelfth place and at the FIS Cups in Notodden to places ten and ninth. In the summer of 2009 he only jumped at the Continental Cups in Lillehammer, where he was 45th and 48th, and at the Fis Cups in Falun. Here Balkåsen achieved very strong results with places two and five.

At the beginning of the World Cup in the 2009/10 season , Balkåsen took part in a World Cup qualification for the first time in Lillehammer, but clearly missed it as 62nd. This season he took part in other qualifications, but always missed the qualification. In addition, he finished 14th and last in a team competition with Carl Nordin , Josef Larsson and Isak Grimholm . Mostly, however, he competed in the Continental Cup, where he only reached the second round in Iron Mountain in ninth place. This was also his best Continental Cup result to date. In the end, with 29 points, it was enough for 94th place in the overall Continental Cup ranking. In the summer, Balkåsen missed the second round of every Continental Cup competition. In addition, he finished second and fourth at the FIS Cup in Örnsköldsvik and fifth and second in Falun.

After several unsuccessful Continental Cup competitions at the beginning of the 2010/11 season, where Balkåsen missed the second round in every competition, he qualified for a World Cup for the first time in his career as the 28th in ski flying in Harrachov at the beginning of January. After not reaching the second round on the first day as 37th, he won a World Cup point for the first time in his career as 30th on the next day. At the 2010 Swedish Championships in Falun , he was able to win the title on the normal hill for the first time. He also won the team title with his club Holmens IF.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo , Balkåsen was unable to qualify on either the normal or the large hill. He was even disqualified when qualifying for the large hill. At the Swedish Championships in 2011 on Hallstabacken in Sollefteå , he won the title on the large hill after last year's success on the normal hill. With the team from Holmens IF he took second place in the team competition.

After the 2011/2012 season , Fredrik Balkåsen ended his international ski jumping career.

At the Swedish Championships in 2017 he won the silver medal in the team competition together with Simon Eklund .
