Freimut Seidel

Freimut Seidel (born January 31, 1934 in Klein Neundorf near Görlitz ) is a former German diplomat . He was ambassador of the GDR in Libya and in the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (VDRJ).

Life

Seidel attended high school and graduated from high school in 1952 . In 1952/53 he served voluntarily in the CIP . In 1953/54 he studied Slavic Studies at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , then from 1954 to 1960 at the Institute for International Relations in Moscow with a degree in political science.

In 1961 Seidel entered the diplomatic service of the GDR and until 1964 was an employee of the Third Non-European Department (Arab countries) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR . From 1964 to 1966 he was Vice Consul, then from 1966/67 consul at the Consulate General in Cairo . From 1967 to 1973 Seidel worked in the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the SED and in 1967 became head of the Central Committee's interpreting group. From 1973 to 1975 he was chargé d'affaires (counselor) in Iran . From September 1975 to November 1981 Seidel worked as the GDR's ambassador in Tripoli . From 1981 to 1986 he was again an employee of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the SED. From April 1986 to 1989 he was the GDR's ambassador in Aden (VDRJ). In 1989/90 Seidel was a research assistant at one of the deputy foreign ministers of the GDR.

Today Seidel is a member of the advisory board of the German-Yemenite Society and its representative in Berlin.
