Fridolin Dreßler

Fridolin Dreßler (born January 5, 1921 in Bamberg ; † April 1, 2013 in Munich ) was a German librarian , manuscript researcher and regional historian .

Life

In Bamberg Dreßler graduated from the new grammar school Bamberg . After studying history, German and Latin at the Philosophical-Theological University of Bamberg and at the University of Würzburg, he received his doctorate in Würzburg with Michael Seidlmayer in 1951 . Co-examiner of doctoral thesis on Peter Damian was Otto Meyer .

After completing his library training, he worked at the Bamberg State Library (today Bamberg State Library ) from 1954 to 1967 , since 1959 as its director. In 1965 he organized the relocation of the State Library from the former Jesuit College (today's university building at the University 2) to the New Residence on Domplatz . With the gain of space for magazines and administrative rooms, the library opened up completely new development opportunities to become a research library . He developed the existing materials from and to ETA Hoffmann into a focus of the Bamberg collections. He obtained a new edition of parts of the catalog of the manuscripts of the Royal Library in Bamberg by Friedrich Leitschuh and Hans Fischer , published from 1887 to 1912 . In 1966, he contributed a supplementary volume with the acquisitions since 1912.

From 1959 to 1967 he was responsible for the publication of the reports of the Historisches Verein Bamberg .

In 1967 he took over the management of the manuscripts and incunabula collection of the Bavarian State Library in Munich. In 1972 he was appointed General Director of the Bavarian State Libraries, and from 1973 to 1985 he was editor of the Bavarian Library Forum . On January 30, 1986, he was adopted into retirement.

Dreßler was a member of the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
