Friedbert Streller

Friedbert Streller (born December 21, 1931 in Hohburg bei Wurzen ; † December 24, 2017 in Dresden ) was a German author , musicologist and composer .

Life

From 1950 to 1956 he studied music education, musicology and composition with Fred Lohse at the University of Leipzig . He then taught himself as a lecturer in Magdeburg , Halle and from 1963 to 1993 at the Dresden Music Academy . In addition to his work as a music critic, he published biographical studies on Aram Chatschaturjan , Paul Hindemith , Sergei Prokofjew and Dmitri Shostakovich . Since 1959 he has also worked as a composer, writing symphonies , the first of which is dedicated to Shostakovich, string quartets, concerts, suites and motets. Streller was a formative member of the German Shostakovich Society.

Friedbert Streller's estate is kept in the Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library.
