Friedrich Elz

Friedrich Elz (born March 30, 1848 in Alzey ; † May 9, 1915 in Darmstadt ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and member of parliament .

Elz was the son of the carpenter Peter Elz (1804-1870) and his wife Catharina nee Schmitt (1816-1883). He attended high school in Mainz and studied theology at the German College in Rome from 1868 to 1874. On June 7, 1873 he was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in Rome. From 1874 to 1887 he was chaplain in Mainz and from 1887 to 1888 parish administrator in Viernheim and then in Gießen . There he was pastor from 1888 to 1891 and from 1891 was pastor in Darmstadt. In 1894 he became dean and in 1898 a clergyman . In 1905 he received the title of honorary cathedral chapter in Mainz .

In 1867 he was the founder of the General Association of Catholic Business Associations and in 1881 the founder of the Merkuria magazine.

As a representative for Bishop Heinrich Brück he was a member of the First Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1903 . He took his parliamentary oath on March 26, 1903.
