Johann Baptist Lüft

Johann Baptist Lüft (born March 30, 1801 in Hechtsheim , † April 23, 1870 in Darmstadt ) was a German Catholic theologian and pastor.

Lüft was ordained a priest in Speyer in 1824 by Bishop Matthäus Georg von Chandelle . In the same year he became a professor at the Episcopal Gymnasium in Mainz. In 1829 he became a professor at the seminary in Mainz . From 1830 he was pastor of St. Bonifatius Church in Gießen , dean of the dean's office in Gießen and at the same time professor and dean of the theological faculty of the University of Gießen . In 1835 he became pastor, high school councilor and dean in Darmstadt. In 1852 he was appointed honorary cathedral chapter in Mainz . From 1857 to 1862 he represented Bishop Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler in the first chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . Lüft represented ultramontane positions and was a member of the Mainz district .
