Friedrich Gustav Bienemann (historian, 1838)

Friedrich Gustav Bienemann (born February 7, 1838 in Riga , † September 20, 1903 in Strasbourg , buried in Freiburg ) was a Baltic German historian and publicist.

Life

After attending school in Birkenruh , Bienemann studied theology in Dorpat from 1857 to 1859 , where he became a member of the Fraternitas Rigensis , then from 1860 to 1862 history in Tübingen , Munich and Göttingen , then again from 1863 to 1864 in Dorpat. From 1865 to 1885 he worked as a senior teacher at the cathedral school in Reval . In addition, he was editor-in-chief of the Revalsche Zeitung from 1869–1871 and publisher and editor of the Baltic monthly from 1880–1888, and from 1878–1982 also a city councilor of Reval. After a stay in Switzerland, he became a city librarian in Riga in 1886. The University of Breslau awarded him the title “Dr. phil. hc ". From 1888 he lived in Germany, first in Leipzig as editor of the magazines Blätter für literary entertainment and Unser Zeit (until 1893), then in Freiburg as a private lecturer, later also as an honorary professor for Eastern European history.
