Friedrich I. (Hessen-Homburg)
Friedrich I of Hessen-Homburg (* March 5, 1585 in Lichtenberg Castle ; † May 9, 1638 in Homburg vor der Höhe ) was the first Landgrave of Hesse-Homburg and founder of the house of the same name.
Life
Friedrich was the youngest son of Landgrave Georg I of Hesse-Darmstadt (1547–1596) from his first marriage to Magdalena (1552–1587), daughter of Count Bernhard VIII. Zur Lippe .
Although the Primogeniturordnung was introduced in Hessen-Darmstadt, Friedrich was apanaged in 1622 with the town and office of Homburg as well as a severance payment and annual deputation monies and did not rule directly under the sovereignty of Hessen-Darmstadt. In 1626 he introduced the right to birthright in the country.
One of his sons was Friedrich II of Hessen-Homburg - the Prince of Homburg .
He is buried in the crypt of the Bad Homburg Landgrave Castle.
