Friedrich Straumer

Friedrich Straumer (born June 7, 1840 in Buchholz , †  December 12, 1900 in Chemnitz ) was a German educator , local writer and conservative politician.

The son of the white tanner Friedrich Immanuel Straumer (1812–1855), who from 1841 was the leaseholder of the inn "Zum Weisse Roß" in Stollberg , and his wife Agnes Straumer nee. Klotz attended elementary school in Stollberg until 1854 . Since he received a vacancy from the Stollberg city council, he was then able to attend the Princely School in Grimma . In 1859/60 he completed his schooling with the Abitur at the Zwickau high school . From 1860 to 1863 he studied at the University of Leipzig classical philology and a doctorate to Dr. phil. After working as a provisional senior teacher at the Progymnasial- und Realschulanstalt in Annaberg in 1864 , from 1866 as a senior teacher at the grammar school in Freiberg and from 1868 as a senior teacher at the newly founded Chemnitz grammar school, he was appointed professor in 1876. In 1883 he was promoted to vice rector . For many years he was the head of the German Language Association . The architect Heinrich Straumer (1876–1937) was his son. Another son became a chemist and received his doctorate in 1912.

Straumer was one of the leading conservatives in the Kingdom of Saxony . In 1875 he was one of the co-founders of the Conservative State Association and was involved in it as a board member. From 1879 to 1881 he was a city ​​councilor in Chemnitz, in 1876 and 1881 he was also a synodal . From 1883 he represented the 36th rural constituency (Stollberg) in the second chamber of the Saxon state parliament . Due to illness, he had to resign from this mandate in 1887. In 1889 he was retired . In addition to conservative pamphlets, Straumer published several works on local history, including a. the two-volume all sorts from the Ore Mountains .
