Friedrich Wilhelm Erhard von Knobloch (born May 13, 1739 in Königsberg , † May 18, 1817 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general and cartographer .

Life

His parents were Karl Gottfried von Knobloch and his wife Sophia Louise Konstantine Drost vom Fisch .

Military career

In 1753 Knobloch became a private corporal in Infantry Regiment "Below" No. 11 and on October 15, 1756 ensign . As such, he took part in the Seven Years' War and fought in the battles of Groß-Jägersdorf , Kay and Kunersdorf . On April 3, 1758 he became second lieutenant . From 1762 to 1763 he was adjutant to his father, General Karl Gottfried von Knobloch. In 1764 he was transferred to the staff of Friedrich II as quartermaster lieutenant .

In 1769 he accompanied the king to maneuvers in Silesia and a meeting with Emperor Joseph II. In 1772 he was transferred to Major von Pfau's troops and used to survey the area between the Warta , Netze and Vistula . He was then also responsible for the planning chamber .

On May 12, 1774 he was promoted to captain . It then took until June 9, 1783, until he was transferred as a major to the "von Berrenhauer" garrison regiment . In 1787 Knobloch returned to the quartermaster staff. On May 13, 1790 he was then Lieutenant General Quartermaster in the staff of the Corps in Dakehmen . On October 1, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and appointed chief of the planning chamber, as well as a bonus of 1,000 thalers .

In 1792 Knobloch fell seriously ill and was given leave for a cure in Karlsbad and another in Pirna . On January 19, 1793, he was promoted to colonel , but he was still ill and went back to Karlsbad in 1794. In 1798 he was then posted unfit for military service, but was also promoted to major general. After the defeat at Jena and Auerstedt , Knobloch fled with King Friedrich Wilhelm III in 1807 . via Königsberg to Memel . There he instructed Scharnhorst in the registers of the planning chamber, which he had from then on.

On October 20, 1808 dimittierte it with a pension of 1000 thalers.

Knobloch was a talented cartographer and was important in the construction of the Prussian plan chamber.,

He died unmarried on May 18, 1817 and was buried in Potsdam. His grave has been preserved to this day.
