Friedrich Wilhelm von Kyaw

Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Kyaw , also Friedrich Wilhelm von Kyau (born May 6, 1654 in Strahwalde near Löbau ; † January 19, 1733 at Königstein Fortress ) was a Brandenburg and Saxon lieutenant general , commander of Königstein Fortress and satirist .

Life

Kyaw comes from the Strahwald branch of the von Kyaw family . At 16, he joined as a musketeer in kurbrandenburgische services and moved from 1672 to 1679 in several campaigns on the Rhine , in the marrow of Pomerania and Prussia. However, he was only promoted to the rank of non-commissioned officer after the war . In 1684 he was transferred to a garrison in Berlin , where he quickly became known for his humor. Until 1690 he took part in campaigns to Hungary and France , as well as in the capture of Buda .

In 1690, due to a threatened duel, he switched to the Electoral Saxon service and followed Field Marshal Hans Adam von Schöning . He fought under his command from 1691 to 1693 on the Rhine and from 1695 to 1696 in Hungary. After this time he quickly became known for his joke at the court of Augustus the Strong and one of the elector's favorites. As a result of this relationship, Kyaw rose quickly, so in 1698 he became Oberstwachtmeister , 1704 Colonel of the Bodyguard, 1710 Major General , 1714 Commander of the Althann'schen Cuirassier Regiment and finally in 1723 Lieutenant General. Until 1715 he took part in various wars side by side with August the Strong.

In 1715 he was also appointed commander of the Königstein Fortress and developed a brisk construction activity. In 1733 he died unmarried at the fortress.

Legend has it that he was responsible for building the Kyau House in Radebeul .
