Friends of the Earth
Friends of the Earth International (German: Friends of the Earth ) is an international consortium of environmental organizations . In 2011 the organization had over two million members and supporters in 76 countries. Only one organization per country can be a member of the association. From Germany this is the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND), from Austria Global 2000 and from Switzerland Pro Natura .
FoE was founded in 1971 by four organizations from France, Sweden, the USA and England. The office of the secretariat is in Amsterdam (Netherlands). FoE is headed by an “Executive Committee”. This executive board is elected every two years by the general assembly.
The common basis of all member organizations is independence from political parties and economic interests, environmental protection work at both local and national level and a democratic structure.
Activities and campaigns
The association examines environmental issues in their social and political environment as well as their impact on human rights. Their campaigns go beyond the traditional field of environmental protection and include sustainability in business and business development .
The following priority international campaigns currently exist:

- Food sovereignty
- Climate justice and energy
These prioritized campaigns are decided at a twice-yearly meeting of Friends of the Earth International.
