Fritz Grebe
Fritz Grebe (born October 11, 1850 in Heisebeck , today part of Wesertal , † March 22, 1924 in Düsseldorf ) was a German painter.
Life
Grebe studied at the art academy in Kassel . Grebe then worked as a freelance artist in Kassel, Düsseldorf , Willingshausen and Berlin and as such he preferred the genre of animal and landscape painting . He belonged to the circle of the Düsseldorf painting school .
From 1880 Grebe was regularly represented with his landscapes in all major exhibitions. In 1892 his first visit was in Ahrenshoop on the Baltic Sea, and he was a co-founder of the nascent artist colony. In 1895 he built his "Villa Grebe" at Grenzweg 8, which he sold again in 1923.
From 1916 alternating stays in Ahrenshoop and Düsseldorf followed. Several trips to Norway followed. Grebe became known for his landscapes, especially the fjord motifs in Norway and the landscapes from Hesse, the Harz, Westphalia and Rügen. Fritz Grebe was a member of the Düsseldorf artists' association Malkasten , the Association of Berlin Artists and the General German Art Cooperative ,
Grebe died in Düsseldorf in 1924 at the age of 74.
His work can be found in many public collections, including the Rostock Cultural History Museum .
