Fritz Muth

Fritz Muth (born April 29, 1865 in Worms , † December 14, 1943 in Tegernsee ) was a decoration and church painter .

life and work

He came from the Muth family of painters in Worms, who had run a craft business in Worms since the generation of his grandfather. The father Peter Muth (1828–1904) was the first of the family to learn academic painting in addition to the craft. His teacher was Joseph Anton Schwarzmann (1806–1890). Peter Muth had seven children, including the painter brothers Fritz, Pedro (1868–1913) and Heinz (* 1871). Fritz studied painting with Ferdinand Keller(1842–1922) in Karlsruhe. Then he ran a painting workshop in Worms. Here he worked - at times together with his brothers - as a decorative and church painter. According to the fashion of the time, he painted in different historical styles. When painting town houses, he particularly used the “old German style” and the Rococo . He painted facades a. a. in the style of the Renaissance , churches mainly in the Romanesque or Gothic style. Since then, many of these murals have been painted over, removed during restoration for monument preservation reasons, or destroyed by destroying or demolishing the building. He painted u. a. in the churches in Bechtheim , Dieburg , Gau-Odernheim , Gimbsheim , Gundheim , Heppenheim (Bergstrasse) , Sprendlingen , Herrnsheim , Horchheim , Mörstadt , Monsheim , Waldsee , in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Mannheim , in the Martinskirche in Worms and in Worms Cathedral . He also worked as a landscape and portrait painter and as an illustrator. In 1917 he left Worms and moved to Munich . He died in 1943 while relaxing in Tegernsee .

The publicist Carl Muth was a cousin of Fritz Muth.
