Fritz Trümpi
Fritz Trümpi (born 1974 in Glarus ) is a Swiss historian and music historian . He lives in Vienna .
life and work
Trümpi studied history , philosophy and musicology in Zurich, Vienna and Berlin. He received a doctoral scholarship from the Swiss National Science Foundation and lives and researches as a music historian in Vienna. He is a research associate in the FWF project Political History of the Vienna Opera 1869–1955 and was a member of the research group examining the history of the Vienna Philharmonic under National Socialism .
His dissertation, published in 2011, on the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic during National Socialism, and his 2014 book - developed together with Bernadette Mayrhofer - on the persecution, murder and exile of members of the Vienna Philharmonic during the Nazi regime attracted national attention. In seventeen biographical portraits, the authors depict their violent expulsion from the orchestra and Vienna, as well as their professional and private development in exile. "After 1945, not a single philharmonic orchestra returned to the orchestra." Numerous sources published for the first time shed new light on the history of the traditional orchestra.
Trümpi held teaching positions, has been a university assistant at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since October 2015 and has since been researching, among other things, the musical culture of the former Habsburg monarchy and its successor states. Currently (as of January 2016) he is doing research in a team on the subject of “A political history of the opera in Vienna from 1869 to 1955” at the Institute for Science and Art in Vienna, which is in cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Institute for Analysis , Theory and History of Music) and the University of Vienna (Institute for Contemporary History). He also publishes in media in German-speaking countries, including the Basler Zeitung , the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , the Tagesspiegel , the Standard and the Wiener Zeitung .
Quote
«With all this, the tone of the book remains objective and calm, but leaves nothing to be desired in terms of clarity. The argumentative condensation of individual documents with historical developments in all their diversity and contradictions is brilliant, with Trümpi always keeping an eye on the intellectual and political background. "
