Front porch step

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Front Porch Step , actually Jake Mcelfresh , (born November 6, 1991 in Newark , Ohio ) is an American singer-songwriter .

Career

Mcelfresh began making music in 2012 and was signed to Pure Noise Records in 2013 , who released their debut album Aware that same year . One month after the release of the debut album, he played four concerts in the opening act of Never Shout Never .

The musician spent the summer of 2014 on the Warped Tour . A tour with State Champs and handguns followed in the fall . In December 2014 his EP Whole Again was also released on Pure Noise Records.

Front Porch Step was supposed to play on the Warped Tour again in 2015 , but he was canceled by the organizer Kevin Lyman due to serious allegations against him. Previously, both visitors to the concert tour and participating artists had requested his expulsion from the Warped Tour. In spring of the same year he had already canceled a headlining tour without further information. Lyman allowed Mcelfresh, however, as part of a therapeutic measure, to perform a concert in Nashville , where he now lives, free of charge.

Sexual harassment allegations

Several underage girls accused Mcelfresh of sexual harassment. He is said to have sent nude photos of himself to those affected via telephone chat. As a result, several petitions were launched demanding that Mcelfresh be banned from the Warped Tour . Both his now former label Pure Noise Records and Warped Tour organizer Kevin Lyman were aware of these allegations against Front Porch Step. On January 9, 2015, the musician announced the cancellation of all concerts planned for the year, including participation in the Warped Tour.

On April 3, 2015, Mcelfresh released an official statement regarding the allegations. It said that as an adolescent he had no self-confidence and was not a crush. With his musical success he was so surprised at how much attention he received from female fans. He admitted that he had telephone contact with women, including minors, but the chat history was not as one-sided as it was known. He also admitted that some messages had sexual content, but that this was only done with women who had given their prior consent. He said that this incident had destroyed a lot and that he had taken a long break from social networks and might want to reappear in the summer.

On July 1, 2015, Front Porch Step played its first concert after the allegations in Nashville , Tennessee as part of the Warped Tour . Kevin Lyman said that he spoke to Mcelfresh's supervisor and that this gig was part of his therapy and therefore was not paid for the gig. Many of the musicians taking part in the tour, including The Wonder Years , Senses Fail , Stick to Your Guns , Man Overboard and Citizen , expressed their incomprehension for this decision and asked visitors to boycott his performance. Mcelfresh was publicly criticized by a visitor during his performance in Nashville, whereupon he replied that he knew who he was and was proud of it.

"The difference between you and me is that I know who I am, and I fucking am very proud of that. So you can go ahead, watch my set. Thank you very much. Thanks for the ticket money, dude. "

- Jake Mcelfresh

The American hardcore band Stray from the Path released DIEPIG, a song based on these incidents and directed against musicians who sexually harass women and abuse their success.

Musical new beginning

On June 2, 2016, Front Porch Step released Help Me Hurt, the first song after the incidents. In this he takes up these incidents vaguely and asks God for forgiveness.
