The Gülper Havel is a tributary of the Havel in the area of an inland delta in the west of the state of Brandenburg or in parts in Saxony-Anhalt . It is a state body of water in the states of Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt. The Gülper Havel is about 6.1 kilometers long.

River course

The Gülper Havel branches off east of the village of Molkenberg from the main arm of the Havel and flows in several meanders northwards. Several ditches and nameless old and tributaries of the Havel flow into both sides. At the height of the eponymous village of Gülpe, which lies on the east bank of the Gülper Havel, the Havelnebenarm Pirre joins on the left . To the north of Gülpe are the listed needle weir with Gülpe rifle weir with the Gülpe boat lock . Next to this there is the lock basin of the former Molkenberg boat lock on a dismantled weir .

The Gülper Havel separates several islands from the main arm in the inland delta , for example the islands of Langefahrtwiese , Pilatsch and Pilatschlanke . South of Strodehne , the Rhin flows into the Gülper Havel after it has left the Gülper See , before it flows into the main arm of the Havel about 200 meters further north.

description

Traffic signs at the confluence of the Gülper Havel in the main arm of the Havel

The Gülper Havel is part of the nature reserve Untere Havel Nord . It may be navigated north of the mouth of the Pirre with muscle-powered watercraft from June 1st of each year to March 1st of the following year and south of the mouth of the Pirre from June 16th of each year to March 1st of the following year with muscle-powered watercraft . Motorized, the river in the area of the state waterway of Brandenburg may only be navigated with electric motors. The maximum permissible speed in the area of the state waterway is 6 km / h above ground. As the former Reichswasserstraße , the Gülper Havel was not a federal waterway , as it was administered by the water management authorities of the GDR on October 1, 1989 and was not taken over by the federal waterways and shipping administration until December 25, 1993 , which is why a return transfer is excluded.

In the course of the project of the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU) for the renaturation of the lower Havel lowlands, the year-round flow through the river arm was improved. A new stowage concept was implemented in the course of which, for example, the inlet weir at the Molkenberg boat lock was removed. Bank ramparts were dismantled . The connection between the arms of the Havel and Gülper Havel and the floodplain have been optimized. Due to the entry of sand , there is no continuous fairway ; there are occasional shoals depending on the water level .
