List of memorial stones for Nazi victims in Mechelen
The list of memorial stones for Nazi victims in Mechelen contains memorial stones that were laid in the Flemish city of Mechelen ( German Mechelen, French Malines ) in Belgium . They remind of the fate of those people from this region who were murdered, deported, expelled or driven to suicide by the German National Socialists . The memorial stones consist of no memorial plaques laid in the ground . Their shape imitates Gunter Demnig's “ stumbling blocks ” , which he relocated elsewhere.
The relocations took place on March 19, 2012, May 16, 2013, November 14, 2014 and most recently on May 13, 2016 in the courtyard of the Koninklijk Atheneum [Royal Athenaeum] in Mechelen. The stones are dedicated to former students and teachers of this institution.
