Günter Dohr
Günter Dohr (born July 7, 1936 in Münster ; † February 25, 2015 Krefeld ) was a German light kineticist , painter , sculptor , graphic artist and representative of the New Art Forms.
education
Günter Dohr studied German at the University of Münster from 1957 to 1958 and from 1958 to 1962 HBK Kassel in Kassel with Ernst Röttger and Arnold Bode, art education and painting. From 1965 to 1967 he turned away from painting and took up experiments with static-kinetic light objects. From 1967 to 1969 Günter Dohr developed his purely static to mechanical-kinetic objects in order to expose the viewer to an intense impression that can be experienced in a short time.
Artist group B 1
In 1969, Dohr founded the artist group B1 with Helmut Bettenhausen , Rolf Glasmeier , Kuno Gonschior , Friedrich Gräsel , Ewerdt Hilgemann , Franz Rudolf Knubel , Ferdinand Spindel , Günter Tollmann and Bernd Damke , which wanted to create artistic guidance systems for the industrial Ruhr area.
Last work phase and university professor
After that, in a third phase of work from 1970 to 1975, light objects with electronically controlled color changes were created, which create gradual light-kinetic phenomena that can only be experienced over longer periods of time. Since 1970, Dohr has been designing functional lighting systems in architectural and urban contexts based on these artistic attempts. A scholarship from the Kulturkreis in the Federal Association of German Industry in 1976 was followed by light objects with white fluorescent tubes in series production by Osram GmbH from 1976 to 1978 . From 1979 onwards, Dohr dealt again with painting, especially with color field painting, under changed circumstances. Since 1980 Dohr has held a professorship for design at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld.
In 1988 he received the studio grant from the Djerassi Foundation in Woodside, California .
