For his sculptures , Friedrich Gräsel , inspired by the industrial environment of his hometown Bochum, used industrially manufactured steel elements , which he put together to create free compositions. "From studying industrial production, he developed a space for his art between industrial standards and the forms of his art, which is still shaped today by the use of tubular shapes." In addition to his freelance work, he has also created plastic tubes that have technical functions as tailpipes for air conditioning systems. "By integrating his art in dedicated industrial facilities, Gräsel draws attention to their formal aesthetics and thus counteracts their alienation [...]." In addition, colored metal sculptures and, very early on, ceramic works were created. Graesel's sculptural works are always accompanied by drawings .
