Günter Giesenfeld (born July 20, 1938 in Birkesdorf near Düren ) is a retired German German philologist, film and media scientist , university lecturer , translator and film director .

Life

Günter Giesenfeld passed the matriculation examination in Heidelberg in 1957 . He then studied German, Romance studies, musicology, education and philosophy in Heidelberg, Münster , Poitiers and Göttingen . From 1962 to 1964 he continued his studies in France in the field of French literature, where he obtained the Certificat d'aptitude de l'enseignement du francais a l'etrangers. He then worked as an interpreter, photographer and advertising manager. From 1965 he was a research assistant at the University of Marburg , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. did his doctorate with a comparison of the dramatic structure of Goethe's Iphigenie and Jean Racine's Bérénice . In the same year he was appointed research assistant at the Institute for Modern German Literature in Marburg . From the 1970 summer semester, he held a teaching position for the associated proseminar . From 1973 to 2003 he taught as a professor of modern German literature and media at the University of Marburg.

Giesenfeld has been active in the Vietnam movement since 1969 and has been chairman of the Vietnam Friendship Society since 1976.

From 1985 Giesenfeld published the magazine Augen-Blick - Marburger Hefte zur Medienwissenschaft , in which some of his essays on film theory appeared. In addition to his work as a media scientist, he also worked as a filmmaker. In 1968 he made his first film and from 1970 he made short films in the student film club of the University of Marburg. His film drama The Cat and the Rooster (1978), which illuminates the problems of a young, unconventional teacher in the context of the “ radical decree ”, was produced by WDR . This was followed by TV documentaries, for which Giesenfeld shot in Cambodia , Laos , Afghanistan , Ethiopia and Vietnam . He also put together an extensive collection of cameras, extracts of which he has been exhibiting in a private museum in Marburg since 2015.
