Günter Gustav Katz (born August 29, 1962 in Wiesbaden ) is a German major general in the Air Force and since July 1, 2018 head of the Bundeswehr Aviation Office .

Military career

Training and first uses

Günter Katz joined the Air Force as an officer candidate in 1982 . From 1983 to 1985 he completed his training as a jet pilot at DtLwKdo USA / CAN with subsequent employment as a jet pilot on the aircraft McDonnell F-4 F at Jagdgeschwader 71 in Wittmund , from 1994 to 1996 he was squadron captain of the 2nd flying squadron.

In 1996, Katz was a course participant in the general staff service course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. From 2000 to 2003 he worked as a consultant for military policy principles and bilateral relations at the headquarters of the armed forces and from 2003 to 2004 as a spokesman for the air force in the Federal Ministry of Defense . In 2004 Katz took over the post of Commodore in Jagdgeschwader 73 . In 2007 he returned to the headquarters of the armed forces as head of the military policy bases and bilateral relations division . From 2012 to 2013, Katz was appointed brigadier general, spokesman for ISAF in Kabul, and in 2013 he was appointed head of the air department in the Luftwaffe commando. In October 2014 he then took over the post of head of the operations department at the Air Force Command in Berlin-Gatow. From October 2015 to June 2018 he was commanding air force units in the air force command . He was promoted to major general in 2016. After handing over this post to Brigadier General Jan Kuebart , Katz succeeded Major General Christian Badia as head of the Bundeswehr Aviation Office on July 1, 2018 .
