Günter Rosenfeld

Günter Rosenfeld (born  September 2, 1926 in Osterode , East Prussia, † April 16, 2015 ) was a German historian . Until 1991 he was Professor of History at the Humboldt University in Berlin . The focus of his work was the history of the Soviet Union and the relations between Soviet Russia and Germany.

Life

From 1959 until his retirement in 1991, Rosenfeld belonged to the Institute for the History of the Peoples of the Soviet Union at Humboldt University and was its director from 1966 to 1979. Rosenfeld actively participated in the joint commission of historians from the USSR and the GDR , which was founded in 1957 . "He did not shy away from including the" white spots "(such as the cooperation between the Reichswehr and the Red Army in the 1920s and the problem of the German-Soviet non-aggression pact in 1939) in his research."

He was chairman of the university group of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF) at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Rosenfeld died at the age of 88.
