Günter Wehrmann

Günter Wehrmann (born July 3, 1948 - † August 29, 2010 in Calcutta , India ) was a German diplomat .

After studying political science at the Free University of Berlin , the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, from which he graduated with the academic degrees “Diplom-Politologe” and “Master of Science”, he worked at the Science Center Berlin. As a student he was a volunteer at ZDF and the BBC .

After joining the Foreign Service in 1978, he was employed at the Consulate General in Chennai / India, at the German Information Center in New York and at the Consulate General in Boston . At the Foreign Office he worked, among other things , in the department for the USA , in the cultural department, in the economic department and in the department for environmental issues.

Until 2001 he was head of a department for information technology in the Federal Foreign Office. Before his assignment as Consul General, he was Deputy Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Boston from 2001 to August 2005 .

From August 2005 until his death Wehrmann was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Calcutta . The administrative district includes the Indian states of West Bengal , Bihar , Jharkhand , Orissa and Assam , Arunachal Pradesh , Manipur , Meghalaya , Mizoram , Nagaland and Tripura .
