Gǃò'é ǃHú (systematic name S / 2008 (229762) 1 ; pronunciation ᶢǃòˀé ǃʰú ) is a moon of the trans-Neptunian object (229762) Gǃkúnǁ'hòmdímà , which is classified as a scattered disk object in terms of orbital dynamics . The companion is about a fifth the diameter of the mother planetoid.

Discovery and naming

Gǃò'é ǃHú was discovered on images taken by Gǃkúnǁ'hòmdímà with the Hubble Space Telescope on November 13, 2008. Both components of the system could be recognized as clearly separated by the recordings. The discovery was announced in 2011, the moon was given the provisional designation S / 2008 (229762) 1 .

Analogous to Mutterplanetoiden the name "G!ò'é !Hú" has been proposed from the mythology of the ethnic group of Ju|'hoansi (a group of the San ) in Namibia originates. Their language Juǀ'hoan contains clicks , “ǃ” is a special letter for one. On April 6, 2019, the name was confirmed by the IAU .

Track properties

Gǃò'é ǃHú orbits the common barycentre in an elliptical orbit at an average distance of 6035 km from the planetoid, which corresponds to 19.66 Gǃkúnǁ'hòmdímà radii or 107.77 Gǃò'é ǃHú radii. The moon needs 11 days 7 hours 33.2 minutes for one orbit, which corresponds to 20019.7 orbits in one Gǃkúnǁ'hòmdímà year. The orbit eccentricity is 0.024, the orbit is 43.75 ° inclined to the equator of Gǃkúnǁ'hòmdímà .

In this binary system, a month accordingly lasts 24.57 Gǃkúnǁ'hòmdímà days .

Physical Properties

The diameter of Gǃò'é ǃHú is currently estimated at 112 km, based on an estimated reflectivity of 15%, analogous to the mother planetoid. The discovery of the moon does not seem to have any significant influence on the determination of the size of the mother planetoid, which, according to current estimates, is still 614 km in size. So Gǃò'é ǃHú should have about 18% of the diameter of Gǃkúnǁ'hòmdímà.

The mass of the system has not yet been calculated.
