Gabriele Scherle

Gabriele Scherle (born March 1952 in Pforzheim ) is a German Protestant clergyman . From 2006 to 2017 she was provost for Rhine-Main in the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) and thus a member of the church leadership.

Life

After completing school, she completed an apprenticeship for the middle civil servant career, worked for two years as a tax assistant and then acquired the technical college entrance qualification . After studying in Freiburg im Breisgau and Siegen , which she graduated as a social worker. From 1975 she worked as a social worker in the Marburg Psychiatric Hospital and then as a pedagogical employee at the Action Group Service for Peace in Bonn .

In 1979 she began studying Protestant theology at the University of Bonn and was awarded a scholarship from the Evangelical Student Union in Villigst . She continued her studies in Berlin , Jerusalem , Bochum and Wuppertal , where she passed the first theological exam in 1987. After the vicariate in Wiesbaden and a special vicariate in Dublin at the Irish School of Ecumenics , she was ordained a pastor in 1990 and then worked in a parish in Neu-Isenburg . From 1999 to 2004 she was pastor for peace at the EKHN, from 2004 to 2006 she was a lecturer in leadership and leadership at the EKD's Burkhardthaus training center in Gelnhausen .

From 1980 to 1984 Scherle was deputy chairwoman of the Action Reconciliation Peace Services in Berlin. She is a member of the Church and Israel working group, and is on the boards of the Martin Niemöller Foundation and the Frankfurt Bible Society and the EKD Synod . Politically, Scherle is assigned to the left-wing spectrum, for example she was nominated by the Hessian SPD as an electoral woman for the election of the German Federal President in 2010 .

In 2006, she succeeded Helga Trösken as Propstin for Rhein-Main at EKHN and held this position until she retired in 2017.
