Galgehøj

Galgehøj , Galgebakke also Galgebjerg was the earlier name of a place in Denmark where there was a gallows for the execution of people. The sites were in the vicinity of places with their own jurisdiction and were often located in prominent places. Today the name is a local part name in various cities and towns in Denmark.

history

According to the previous Criminal Code, it was possible to be sentenced to death for murder and specific crimes against the state. The last time the corresponding paragraphs were applied was when Jens Nielsen was executed in 1892. He had murdered a law enforcement officer. The use of the death penalty under civil criminal law was abolished in Denmark on April 15, 1933.
