Galina Borissowna Woltschek ( Russian Галина Борисовна Волчек , scientific transliteration Galina Borisovna Volček ; born December 19, 1933 in Moscow ; † December 26, 2019 ibid) was a Russian theater and film actress and theater director . From 1972 until her death, she was artistic director of the Sovremennik Theater in Moscow.

Life

Galina Woltschek was born as the daughter of the cameraman and film director Boris Israilewitsch Woltschek . After studying at the theater school at MChAT , she was one of the co-founders of the Sovremennik Theater in 1956, the artistic director of which was the young director Oleg Yefremov . Woltschek was cast in a small role in the very first play that was performed at the new theater - Viktor Rosow's “Die Ewig Lebenden”. Her directorial debut - William Gibson's drama “Spiel zu zwei” - was also very successful and remained in the theater's repertoire for over 30 years. After Yefremov left the Sovremennik in 1970 and switched to the MChAt, the theater fell into a crisis. In 1972 Woltschek finally took over the management of the theater and in the following years led it to a new bloom.

Woltschek was also known as a film actress. So she was in an episode in the movie Beware, Car Thief! (Director: Eldar Rjasanow ), seen in the role of Varvara in Giorgi Danelia's strip Marathon in autumn and in several other films. However, from the 1980s onwards, she focused on the theater. In the second legislative period she was a member of the State Duma from 1995 to 1999 .

Galina Woltschek was married twice - her first marriage to the actor Yevgeny Yevstigneyev . Their son Denis emerged from this marriage .
