Gallhammer is a Japanese extreme metal band with influences from Black Metal , Doom Metal and Crustcore . The band was formed in Tokyo in 2003 . All three members are female, which is a rarity in this genre and probably got the band more attention than the music itself.

“I can say that raw feelings make a good sound. Because we are not machine. We could shed blood, could vomit and have a feeling of hate. [...] I wanted to express the mental instability and mental cruelty which a girl has. Now we are holding up pride, hate and life in the front. We are not wearing that dress. "

“I think raw feelings make a good sound. We are not machines; We can shed blood, throw up, and hate. [...] I wanted to express the mental imbalance and the mental cruelty that a girl possesses. Now we show pride, hate and life. We won't put on this shoe. "

history

Vivian Slaughter during a concert in London, 2007

Gallhammer was founded because Vivian Slaughter (real name: Eri Isaka) wanted to create a band that played music in the mood of the Swiss band Hellhammer . Before that, Slaughter had a digital hardcore band called Vivian Christ, in which she played the saxophone , programmed the drum machine and sang . The other members, Risa Reaper and Mika Penetrator, joined the band in 2003, the year it was founded. At first none of the women could play their instrument, as they were all singers before or had just learned other instruments.

Her first recording, a limited edition of 30 pieces demo - tape , was established in March 2003 to her first gig distributed at Koiwa Death Fest Vol 2 in Japan.. In July of the same year, the first self-titled demo album was released. In April of the following year the band released a second demo album called Endless Nauseous Days . In November 2004 her debut album Gloomy Lights was released on Hello from the Gutter Records .

The band signed with Peaceville Records in early 2006 after being recommended to Nocturno Culto's label by Darkthrone . The Dawn of ... has been released. It contained a CD , demo and rehearsal material and a DVD recording of a performance in Okayama and five concerts in Tokyo .

Gallhammer released the second album, Ill Innocence , in September 2007 via Peaceville Records, followed by a European tour. In March 2008 they hosted a second. They also performed at the Inferno Metal Festival Norway in June. In 2009 Vivan Slaughter founded the project Sehnsucht with her fiancé Maniac (Ex- Mayhem , Skitliv ) and the Skitliv guitarist Ingvar Magnusson, for which Maniac was later able to win Andrew Liles ( Nurse with Wound , Current 93 ).

Influences

In an interview with Contraband Candy , Vivian Slaughter named Hellhammer , Celtic Frost , Amebix and Burzum as the band's main influences. Slaughter is also a passionate Judas Priest fan and appreciates Corrupted . Although the group processes crust and anarcho punk , they do not identify with any particular political direction. Slaughter says she got the idea to make music after listening to Napalm Death and Painkiller at concerts. Other influences include Joy Division , Antisect , Carcass , Cathedral , Morbid Angel, and Scorn , among others . Risa Reaper is a fan of old-school techno , Kraftwerk , Krautrock and Laibach . The group is also inspired by Japanoise and has worked with Incapacitants .
