The Gamskarkogel is 2467 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Ankogel group in the Austrian state of Salzburg . It rises in the east of the Gastein Valley and in the west of the Grossarl Valley .
Hiking routes
From Bad Hofgastein you start the ascent to the Gamskarkogel at the Annencafe at 1074 m. Well signposted, you reach the Rastötzenalm at an altitude of 1743 m. Here you can choose the direct route to the Gamskarkogel - total walking time approx. 4 hours - or via the Schmalzscharte (2159 m) and the Frauenkogel (2424 m) to climb the Gamskarkogel - this takes approx. 5 hours of walking.
The green tree is the starting point for the ascent from Bad Gastein . Over the Poserhöhe (1502 m) you reach the Toferer Scharte at 2091 m. The Gamskarkogel can be reached within approx. 4 hours via this route.
Großarl offers two ascent options: from Mandldörfl, the first intermediate station is the Aigenalm. After Schmalzscharte (2159 m), Tennkogel (2333 m) and Frauenkogel (2424 m) you can reach the Gamskarkogel in about 5 hours. Via the Hasler Heimalm and the Bachalm, which is located at 1535 m, you can reach the Gamskarkogel via Frauenkogel (2424 m) - walking time approx. 4 hours.
If you start the hike in Hüttschlag , you walk from Hinterfeld over the Harbachalm (1612 m) and the Toferer Scharte (2091 m) to the Gamskarkogel in about 4 hours.

Others
On October 15, 2004, the German hobby alpinist and Ötzi explorer Helmut Simon had an accident on a solo hike on the Gamskarkogel after he left the marked path during a weather change.
