Gao Yang ( Chinese  高 陽  /  高 阳 , Pinyin Gāo Yáng; born March 1, 1993 ) is a Chinese shot putter .

Athletic career

In 2012 she won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with 16.57 m and in 2013 the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Pune with 17.76 m. Two years later she won the silver medal behind her compatriot Guo Tianqian at the Asian Championships in Wuhan and was fifth in the final at the World Championships in Beijing with 19.04 m . In 2016 she qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where she finished eighth with 17.67 m. She also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was eliminated there with 16.17 m in qualification . In 2017 she took part in the World Championships in London and again reached fifth place in the final .

In 2018 she qualified again for the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she finished fourth with a new indoor record of 18.77 m. At the end of August she won the silver medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta with 17.64 m behind her compatriot Gong Lijiao .

Gao graduated from Beijing Pedagogical University with a degree in Sports Science .
