The former Gasthof Serkowitz is one of the oldest inns in the Lößnitz , it was first mentioned in a document in 1337. It is located on the northern edge of the original village center of Serkowitz , a district of the Saxon city of Radebeul . In addition, the now listed property was an important carriage stop on the old Poststrasse (also Hauptstrasse and Heerstrasse ) between the Dresden Residence and the bishopric in Meißen , before the road was relocated to the higher Elbe terrace due to the events of October 18, 1784 (see Weiberstein ) became (today's Meißner Strasse). Since September 9, 2012, the inn, which was closed years ago as a restoration, has housed the temporary permanent exhibition of the Museum of Lies .

Gasthof Serkowitz, still with single dormers. Postcard from 1899

The guest house, which consists of two structures, is located on the corner of the Altserkowitz village location and the former Poststrasse, today's Kötzschenbrodaer Strasse (No. 39). The actual inn is on the front eaves side of the street. The main view of the two-storey, plastered building with seven window axes is neo-baroque , in the middle is the presumably older entrance portal with the keystone from 1869. On top there is a mansard roof with large pike dormers built in later .

The hall building is located directly behind the guest house in the village center. The two-story building has an eaves cornice at the height of the pike due to the raised upper floor. On the upper floor there are seven high arched windows with capitals and keystones. Inside the ballroom is decorated with stucco.

history

Gasthof Serkowitz, keystone

In 1337 the inn, together with the valley mill , was first mentioned as an inheritance tavern. Half a hoof of land belonged to the estate, the owner was one of 13 (from the 16th century 16) full members of the Serkowitz old community and for a long time also held the office of local judge . For centuries the Schänkgut was the only Kretscham (beer tavern) in the parish of Kaditz .

The first innkeeper known by name was Johannes Hoppe around 1506. After long arguments about “keeping to the beer mile ”, from 1529 the Erbkretzschmar had the right to “free serving, brewing, slaughtering and baking” as well as “putting in and serving foreign beers” in front of all other surrounding villages. In 1606 the property inventoried nine tables and two tables.

From 1612 to 1749 the estate was owned by the von Rödern lords , after which it was taken over by the butcher Johann Christian Lehmann. The relocation of the road due to the events of October 18, 1784 (see Weiberstein ) deprived the inn of a large part of the economic basis, to which Lehmann's heirs reacted in 1788 with the establishment of the inn "Weißes Roß" on the new road.

The inn in Serkowitz changed hands several times in the first half of the 19th century. From 1851 regular dance events took place there. Friedrich August Huhle acquired the property in 1862, then had the old buildings demolished and the present inn built in massive construction (keystone from 1869). In 1877 the large hall was added, which was enlarged in 1899. The Huhle family managed the property until 1963.

From 1963 the building was used as a tailoring workshop for VEB Herrenmode Novitas . In 1973 the LPG early vegetable center "Wilhelm Wolff" took over the inn. In 1975 the restaurant was reopened, with the former slaughterhouse serving as a company kitchen. The hall was restored in 1979.

In 1993 the inn became privately owned. In a foreclosure auction in November 2007, the property came back into the possession of the city of Radebeul.

The former inn, which is otherwise unused, is currently used as a storage site for the Museum of Lies from Brandenburg . On September 9, 2012, this was opened in the inn as a temporary permanent exhibition until a decision is made about the further use of the former inn. For this reason, the city of Radebeul, as the owner of the property, decided to secure and refurbish the leaky roof in order to be able to search for future concepts for further use without any time pressure due to its "outstanding importance in terms of urban history". The project to set up a “Museum of Lies” by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony is currently viewed as critical.
