Bought, cooked, won is a documentary soap from the television station kabel eins . Two professional chefs compete in a duel in which they each have to cook a menu from their purchases in the kitchen of a supermarket customer within two hours.

Structure of a program

Frank Rosin is one of the professional chefs on the show.

Two professional chefs compete in a duel. About hidden cameras observing customers in a supermarket when shopping. Each chef has to decide which customer he would like to cook with. When the selected customer goes to the checkout, the chef goes to the exit of the store and speaks to the customer. If the customer agrees to participate after explaining the concept, he drives to his home with the professional chef. There, the chef and customer prepare a two-course menu with a starter and main course or a main course and dessert under time pressure. If possible, they have to use some of the food that the customer has just bought. Salt, sugar, pepper, oil, vinegar and dry spices can also be used. In addition, the chef has a wild card: He can request an ingredient from the customer's kitchen that is not from the current purchase and use it if it is available.

The dishes are then served to test eaters (season 1) or a gastronomy critic (season 2). They receive a list of the products they have purchased, but have no information about which menu was prepared by which team. If a product has not been used against the rules, it is placed on the table next to the menu to show the deficiency. After the tasting, the chefs and customers come into the room and the test eaters or the gastronomy critic vote on which team has cooked the better menu. The successful customer receives 500 euros.

First season (2017)

In the first season, the participants were selected in a Munich branch of the discounter Lidl . The contracting parties had exactly two hours for the entire process, from observing the customers to packing the prepared dishes. The vote for the best menu was carried out by three test eaters who voted with green and orange cards. The winner received a shopping voucher from Lidl worth 500 euros.

Second season (2018)

Customers are selected in an Edeka branch . The two competing chefs can only buzz when the customer puts the products on the checkout belt and have to decide before the last product is scanned . Both chefs can woo the same customer. In this case, the customer decides, if he starts, with which cook he starts. The chefs have 45 minutes to choose. They then have another 45 minutes in the participant's kitchen to prepare the dishes. The dishes are rated by the gastronomy critic Heinz Horrmann , who awards up to three points in the categories of food use, creativity and taste. If not all ingredients from the shopping cart have been used, points will be deducted. The winner receives 500 euros in cash.

Production and Criticism

Frank Rosin has been with kabel eins since 2009 with Rosins Restaurants . The broadcaster therefore built the new format of bought, cooked, won around him . Rosin sees it as a "family-friendly format [that] should appeal to all generations". He wants to "explain to people [...] that they can do a lot more with the things they buy than they think." It is also important to him that professional chefs "reach the masses". Manuel Nunez Sanchez described the broadcast on Oddsmeter.de as a “nice, very witty hour of entertainment in the evening”. The “best part, because the least used part” is the start with the selection of customers, the rest “more or less routine cooking show”.

Data protection when observing with hidden cameras is to be guaranteed by informing customers at the entrance that filming is taking place in the store.
