Beloved Lies (Original title: Lies My Father Told Me ) is a Canadian drama film directed by Ján Kadár from 1975 .
action
A six-year-old boy drives an old horse-drawn cart with his grandfather through the alleys of the Jewish émigré ghetto in Montreal . They collect scrap that they get from the residents of the ghetto. Then the grandfather dies and so does the horse Ferdeleh.
criticism
“In nostalgic pictures, a melancholy and lovingly told story from the Jewish emigrant quarter in Montreal in the 20s. The focus of the plot is the relationship between a six year old and his grandfather. A very impressive testimony to the faithful Jewish way of life, which is still supported by tradition. Just as convincing is the psychological outline of the grandfather-grandchildren relationship and the mixture of relaxed and pragmatic, sober features. "
