Parwomaj [ pɤrvoˈmaj ] ( Bulgarian Първомай ) is a town and administrative center of a municipality of the same name in southern Bulgaria in the Plovdiv Oblast . The city is the administrative center of the Parwomaj municipality of the same name.
Parwomaj originated under its Turkish name Haji Eles ( Bulgarian Хаджи Елес ). It is unclear whether the city was first established in the 18th century or whether the village was mentioned in an Ottoman tax register as early as 1576.
On the occasion of the birth of the Tsar's son on January 30, 1894, the city was renamed Borissowgrad ( Bulgarian Борисовград ) (after Tsar Boris III. ), Then in 1947 in Parwomaj, which literally means "May 1st ".
Since 2010, the city has given its name to the Isthmus Parvomay Neck of Greenwich Island in Antarctica.
