Gennady Wassiljewitsch Kolbin
Gennadi Wassiljewitsch Kolbin ( Russian Геннадий Васильевич Колбин ; born May 7, 1927 in Nizhny Tagil , † January 16, 1998 in Moscow ) was a Soviet - Russian politician. He was best known as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party in the Kazakh SSR .
biography
In 1942 Kolbin worked as a model maker in a shoemaker's cooperative in Nizhny Tagil. He studied from 1943 to 1947 at a technical, high school. Professionally, he then worked as a designer and technologist and rose to the position of department head and chief engineer of a company in Nizhny Tagil. In 1959 he became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and secretary of the party committee of his factory. From 1962 to 1970 he was second or first secretary of the Nizhny Tagil party committee. From 1970/71 he was Second Party Secretary in Sverdlovsk . In 1975 he was promoted to Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party in Georgia . From 1983 he was First Secretary of the Communist Party for the Ulyanovsk region (oblast) .
Born in Russia, Kolbin was the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan in the Kazakh SSR from December 16, 1986 to June 22, 1989 . He was appointed to this post by the General Secretary of the CPSU, Mikhail Gorbachev , after his predecessor Dinmuhamed Kunayev was criticized by Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Nursultan Nazarbayev for his increasingly nationalist policies and for corruption allegations . First, Kolbin was able to pacify the violent Sheltoksan riots that had occurred in Almaty when he took office . As a Russian outsider, however, he had no political base in Kazakhstan.
His successor in office was therefore in 1989 Nazarbayev, who later became President of Kazakhstan.
Kolbin then took on a management position in a bank in Moscow in 1990 . He was buried in the Trojekurowo cemetery in Moscow.
Honors
He received the Order of Lenin , the Order of the October Revolution , twice the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Badge of Honor of the Soviet Union .
