Georg Alexander Andreas Carl Michael Peter Philipp Ignatius Maria Herzog zu Mecklenburg (born August 27, 1921 in Nice ; † January 26, 1996 in Mirow ) was the eldest son of Georg Herzog zu Mecklenburg and a great-great-grandson of Grand Duke Georg (1779–1860), of the regent of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and brother of Queen Luise of Prussia (1776–1810).

Life

Georg Alexander Herzog zu Mecklenburg was head of the Mecklenburg-Strelitz House from 1963 to 1996 after an agreement with the Mecklenburg-Schwerin House in 1950. He was Knight of Honor and Knight of Devotion to the Sovereign Order of Malta .

Until 1940 he lived at Remplin Castle near Malchin . On the night of April 11, 1940, it was set on fire at the instigation of the Gauleiter of Mecklenburg-Lübeck. In 1944, after his father was imprisoned in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp , the Gestapo interned him in a castle in Stauffenberg .
