Georg Detharding (theologian)

Georg Detharding (born April 15, 1727 in Rostock ; † July 3, 1813 there ) was a German Lutheran theologian and pastor.

Life

Georg Detharding was the eldest son of the physician Georg Christoph Detharding . From 1741 he studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Copenhagen and Rostock , where he completed his studies with a master's degree. Detharding then attended the University of Göttingen from 1750 and completed his habilitation in 1751 in his home town of Rostock.

On August 12, 1755 he was appointed preacher at the Jakobikirche in Rostock. In 1764 he was in Göttingen to the doctor doctorate . In 1774 he was appointed archdeacon . In 1794 he became Director ministerii in Rostock , i.e. director of the Ministry of Spirituality , and thus the leading clergyman of the city. Detharding stood out through his theological and educational writings.

Like his father, his younger brother Georg Christoph Detharding became a doctor and in 1759 became Dr. med. PhD; he practiced in Rostock, where he died on June 12, 1789.

Georg Detharding was married from 15 October 1756 Magdalene Luise Heintze (1734 to 1799), the daughter of Güstrower Dr. med. and Councilor Johann Christoph Heintze . His son of the same name Georg Detharding also became pastor at St. Jakobi and director of the Ministry of Spirituality.
