Georg Christoph Detharding (born April 10, 1699 in Güstrow , † October 9, 1784 in Bützow ) was a German medic .

Life

Detharding was the son of the professor of medicine at the University of Rostock , Georg Detharding . He attended the grammar school in his hometown Güstrow and studied medicine at the universities of Rostock , Leipzig , Halle and Jena from 1715 . After completing his academic training, he worked at various military hospitals and hospitals. In 1722 he established himself as a general practitioner in Rostock . In 1725 he received his doctorate. med. When his father was appointed to the University of Copenhagen , Detharding followed him to the Rostock chair in 1733. In 1748 he was appointed ducal personal physician and in 1749 he was appointed councilor . From March 1750 he also acted as district physician for the cities of Warin, Neubukow, Schwaan and Kröpelin as well as for the offices of Schwaan, Neubukow, Warin and Doberan. In 1760, Duke Friedrich von Mecklenburg-Schwerin appointed him professor of medicine at the newly founded University of Bützow and as district physician for the offices of Bützow and Rühn. In 1762/63 and 1768 he was rector of the university.

His brother Georg Wilhelm became Lübeck's mayor in 1765 , his brother Georg August Detharding was Professor of Law and History at the Christianeum in Altona .

Detharding was married to Catharina Elisabeth Roggenbau, the daughter of a Rostock businessman. The couple had six children. His eldest son Georg Detharding became a pastor in Rostock. His son of the same name Georg Christoph Detharding also became a doctor in Rostock.
