Georg Ernst von Kleist (also registered as Jürgen Ernst von Kleist in the Juchow church register; * August 12, 1716 in Juchow , Neustettin district ; † December 2, 1785 in Dallentin , Neustettin district) was a Prussian district administrator in the Duchy of Pomerania .

Origin and family environment

Georg Ernst von Kleist came from the Raddatz branch of the old Pomeranian nobility from Kleist . He became the youngest son of Georg Heinrich von Kleist (1674-1743), heir to Raddatz and Juchow , and Catharina Maria von Kleist (1676-1753), daughter of Joachim Daniel von Kleist († 1709), on August 12, 1716 born.

Life

Georg Ernst von Kleist did not become a career officer, as is usual with the younger sons of the family, but instead chose a career as an administrative officer. Although it is not expressly passed down, it can be assumed that he had studied law, because the office of district administrator of the Neustettiner Kreis, which he later administered, required legal knowledge, since the district administrators had to represent the Duke of Pomerania on court days.

Kleist first became a Prussian war council on a day that can no longer be determined . For the first time he appears as such in a document on September 12, 1743, and as a war and domain councilor in the marriage register of the Raddatz church book on July 9, 1745. War councils were civil servants who had to ensure that the taxes for the war chest were properly raised and were drafted. When he was appointed district administrator, the date can no longer be determined. For the first time he appears as a war and district administrator since 1765. The office of a Pomeranian district administrator could not be compared with the later Prussian district administrator, since his task was not, as later, the administration of a district. The district administrators in the old Duchy of Pomerania were rather landständische representatives, since the recess of Stargard of 11 July 1654 the Ländständen the Duke proposed to and approved by had. They were the Duke's most important advisors in the state parliaments, but could also be summoned to court by the Duke at any time. They advised the dukes on all important questions, including on court days, and therefore had to be legally qualified. They were also used as envoys or in certain commissions. They were most likely to be compared with the later members of a provincial parish, because they not only represented the interests of all of Pomerania, but also the wishes of their respective local districts. Georg Ernst von Kleist was District Administrator of the Neustettiner Kreis.

Georg Ernst von Kleist had been with Wilhelmine Philippine von Kleist (* 1720), daughter of the Kgl. Prussian Field Marshal Henning Alexander von Kleist and Knight of the Black Eagle Order , married. From this marriage came the two daughters Marie Charlotte Ernstine (1747–1763) and Alexandrine Clara Wilhelmine (1749–1749).
