Georg Friedrich Gmelin

Georg Friedrich Gmelin (born July 13, 1679 in Marbach (uncertain), † July 23, 1745 in Stuttgart ) was a German medic .

Life

Georg Friedrich Gmelin was born on July 13, 1679 in Marbach, the first of twelve sons of Johann Georg Gmelin . As a result of the Palatinate War of Succession , the family fled from the French to Regensburg when he was nine years old , where he attended high school for nine months . Later he went to a high school in Stuttgart and from 1694 attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden . Two years later he moved to the University of Leipzig and in 1698 moved to the University of Tübingen , which earned him a doctorate in medicine on April 20, 1701 . In the meantime, his father also trained him to be a medic, whom he accompanied on his travels.

In December 1701 Gmelin was called to Stuttgart to see the city doctor. 1704 for court physician and hospital - Inspector promoted, he stayed in 1707 when his wife and children because of the approaching French to Bad Urach fled in Stuttgart and went on his offices after. He was employed as a field doctor two years later. He died on April 23, 1745 in Stuttgart at the age of 66.

In Bietigheim he married Anna Cordula Steeb on February 7, 1702; together they had 15 children.
