Georg Günther (Author)

Georg Günther (born December 17, 1845 in Altenburg ; † November 12, 1923 there ) was a German teacher and writer .

Life

Born as the son of the church council and poet Karl Friedrich Günther (1807-1883), Günther went to Altenburg high school after private lessons with his father and studied philology in Jena , Bonn and Leipzig . During his studies he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in the Burgkeller in 1864 and of the Alemannia Bonn fraternity in 1865 . He was promoted to Dr. phil. doctorate and passed his state examination in 1869 . He became a teacher at the Hölbeschen private grammar school in Dresden and in 1872 went to the grammar school in Bautzen as a teacher . From 1873 to 1903 he was first a senior teacher , from 1887 professor at the grammar school in Plauen . He spent his retirement in Jena and Dresden. He was mainly concerned with antiquity , art history , dramaturgy and dramatic poetry .

In Plauen he was a member of the Masonic Lodge Pyramid in the Orient .
