Georg Heinrich Kührner

Georg Heinrich Kührner (born January 10, 1875 in Vienna , † September 12, 1949 in Perchtoldsdorf ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Born as the son of a line office controller, Kührner went to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna after attending the public school in 1891 , where he was a guest student in Christian Griepenkerl's general painting school . In 1894 he was a co-founder of the Aldania Vienna fraternity . He received a scholarship for his good performance . In 1895 he went with Carl Rudolf Huber in the Special School for animal painting , 1896 in the Special School of Composition and history painting of Siegmund L'Allemand . He attended the Special School for Kupferstecherei of William Unger . In 1901 he finished his studies. Because of his awards, Unger appointed him as court painter at the Austrian imperial court as early as 1905 . He painted several pictures of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Karl I. In 1909 he received the artist foundation of the Grillparzer sisters Fröhlich . Kührner was also active as a publicist and art critic .

After serving as a one-year volunteer with the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger as early as 1899/1900 , he came to the Feldjäger Battalion No. 10 (Kopal) during World War I , where he drew his superiors as an ensign and, among other things , captured Emperor Karl during a front inspection. He returned from the war as an invalid and was therefore given a tobacco shop .

He studied people and animals at Völkerschauen in Vienna. In Vienna and other cities he exhibited at art exhibitions, in 1904 at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition .

Honors

  • During his studies he was awarded the Rome Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna several times, as the only artist twice within a year.
  • 1901: Gundel Prize for his original colored etching Life-size tiger head
  • 1901: Füger Prize in gold for his painting horse thief
