Georg Leonhard Weber

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Leonhard Weber (* 1665/1670 in Franconia ; † after 1732) was a German sculptor who ran a studio in Schweidnitz and mainly worked in Silesia .

life and work

When Weber married in Schweidnitz on November 24, 1698, it was noted in the corresponding marriage entry that he was the son of Johann Balthasar Weber, “Sculptor at Ihro hochfürstl. Your Highness from Schwartzenburg ”. On September 6, 1699 his son Johann was baptized in Schweidnitz. At that time he was probably already running a sculptor's studio there. From the beginning of the 18th century he created numerous works, including in collaboration with the Jesuit Johann Riedel , the Dresden-born August Gottfried Hoffmann, Johann Adam Karinger and Franz Joseph Mangoldt , who was married to a daughter of Weber.

It is probable that Weber had a son of the same name, because Georg Leonhard Weber, born in Schweidnitz, is documented as a sculptor journeyman in Brno for the year 1725 .
