Georg Nerlich

Georg Nerlich (born January 6, 1892 in Opole , Silesia , † April 17, 1982 in Dresden ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Georg Nerlich studied from 1912 at the Breslau Academy of Arts and Crafts with Hans Poelzig , Karl Hanusch , Max Wislicenus , Otto Pankok , and Fryderyk Pautsch . In 1917 Nerlich passed the state examination as an art teacher. He then worked as a painter, graphic artist and teacher in Wroclaw, Katowice and Opole. In 1920 he was a member of the Künstlerbund Silesia and the German Werkbund . From 1926 he went on study trips to Italy , southern France , Austria , the Alps , the Dolomites , the Curonian Spit and the Baltic Sea .

Nerlich painted with expressive colors and in cubist forms. Nerlich was at the u. a. Involved in the Lower Silesian Art Gau exhibition funded by the Nazi Propaganda Ministry. On the other hand, several of his works were confiscated as degenerate . A large part of Georg Nerlich's work was lost in the Second World War .

From 1948 to 1957 he was professor of painting and graphics at the Technical University of Dresden , where in 1958 he organized the exhibition of the works of his Wroclaw teacher “Studies and Sketches by Karl Hanusch”.

Nerlich died in Dresden in 1982. His grave is in the Weißer Hirsch forest cemetery . A street was named after him in Dresden.
