Georg Nolte

Georg Nolte (born October 3, 1959 in Bonn ) is a German legal scholar and holder of the chair for public law , international law and European law at the Institute for international and European law at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

He grew up in Bonn as the son of the historian Ernst Nolte . After graduating from high school, he studied law at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Geneva . He then worked as a research assistant in the law department of the Free University of Berlin. He then completed his legal preparatory service and also worked as a research assistant and speaker at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. After a visiting professorship at the Law Faculty of the University of Leipzig , he received his doctorate in 1991 at the University of Heidelberg . This was followed by a teaching and research stay in 1992 at New York University , School of Law, after which he continued his work at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg.

After his habilitation in 1998 with the subject of intervention on invitation , he took over a professorship at the Law Faculty of the University of Regensburg before he became professor for public law, international law and comparative law at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in October 1999 . In December 2004 he accepted a call to the Law Faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and, as successor to Bruno Simma , held the chair for public law, international law and European law at the Institute for International Law until March 2008. Since April 2008, he has been the successor to Christian Tomuschat and Gerd Seidel, holding the chair for public law, international law and European law at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Nolte has been a member of the United Nations International Law Commission since January 2007, and was its chairman during the 70th session in 2017.
