Georg Sieglitz

Georg Franz Sieglitz (born April 26, 1854 in Mainz , † November 3, 1917 in Munich ) was a German opera singer (bass). From 1898 until his death he worked as a chamber singer at the Bavarian Court Opera.

Life

Georg Sieglitz was the son of the Mainz lawyer Georg Michael Sieglitz. He first studied at the University of Jena and became active in the Corps Guestphalia Jena in 1874 . As a consenior , who has been awarded twice, he moved to the Hessian Ludwig University , where he also joined the Corps Starkenburgia in 1875 .

After completing his vocal training in bass in Berlin, he made his debut at the Hamburg State Opera in 1880 as Masetto in Don Giovanni . He then had engagements at the Poznan Opera , the Deutsche Oper am Rhein , the Nuremberg State Theater , the Kroll Opera in Berlin and the Prague State Opera . In Prague he was instrumental in founding the Corps Palaio-Austria.

In 1898 he became a chamber singer at the Munich Court Opera . There he sang the first performances of Siegfried Wagner's Bärenhäuter in 1899 . He sang Arlecchino at the world premiere of Le donne curiose in Munich in 1903. He made guest appearances in Bern, Dresden, Cologne, Rotterdam and Wiesbaden. At the Metropolitan Opera he sang Hunding , Raimondo in Rienzi , Zacharie in Le prophète , Kothner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg , King Heinrich in Lohengrin and the King in Aida . His Rhenish nature and his massive stature suited the title role in Verdi's Falstaff .

He was involved in the Munich carnival society Narrhalla .
