Georg Simon Winter, from 1681 Winter von Adlersflügel (baptized January 12, 1629 in Ansbach , † December 22, 1701 in Quedlinburg ) was a German riding master, horse doctor and author .

Life

Georg Simon Winter was one of the 13 children of the margrave rider Johann Winter. After serving in the Swedish and Spanish armies, he received training from the Heidelberg riding and stable master Aurelius Sebastianus Frobenius from 1655 to 1656 .

In 1656 he married Anna Maria Loedel. In 1661 he returned from the Electoral Palatinate to Ansbach and succeeded his father as a rider. In 1672, Winter, who was last chief rider and mare master at the court of Margraves Albrecht and Johann Friedrich of Brandenburg-Ansbach , followed a call from Eberhard III. von Württemberg as ducal mare master. Shortly before the Duke's death, he resigned from overseeing the Marbach main and state stud , the Urach and Grafenau foal stations and the Offenhausen donkey stud because the good times of Württemberg horse breeding were over.

From then on, Winter devoted himself increasingly to the publication of writings on horse medicine and horse breeding. On August 9, 1681, Emperor Leopold I , who was very fond of the hippiatric , probably also because of the personal dedication of several of his works , elevated him to the nobility with von Adlersflügel .

Around 1690, Winter von Adlersflügel was in the service of Brandenburg as a stable master before he moved to the Danish court. Under King Christian V , Winter then took over the position of Rittmeister at the Christiansborg Riding School , where he successfully devoted himself to training the famous Danish Knabstrupper . In 1697, Winter took up the position of stable master in Gröningen . He then lived in the former bishopric of Halberstadt in Brandenburg until his death.

His son Ludwig Christian Johannes Winter von Adlersflügel (1661–1705) was his successor as horse doctor and stable master in Gröningen. His daughter Sophia Margarethe lived in the monastery in Wollmirstädt in 1694.

Winter's writings by Adlersflügel were published several times after his death and were considered standard hippiatric works in the 18th century.
